The Vespertine Circus
Circus folks are always great to photograph. They're natural show people and enjoy and appreciate being in front of a camera. I became friends with troupe leader Bunny Zlotnik a few years back on a shoot with R.J. Muna. I was assisting and she was being painted to be a piece of a Fiat. . . Long story.
Bunny is the head of the Vespertine Circus. A small troupe based out of West Oakland, California. They just had the premier of a new interactive show called Hinge. I thought this was the perfect opportunity to do some tintype portraits. Their costumes and face paint have an old timey feel that would look great in the old medium. I wanted to shoot each member in 5x7 and 6x6. I particularly like the square images.
Bunny has become a friend, collaborator and sometime Muse. I'm glad to have her in my life and I can't wait to see what she does next.
